Hot New Minneapolis Spots to Eat This Fall

Fall signals fresh beginnings, and the restaurant scene in Minneapolis is no exception to that rule.  Here are the hottest spots set to open this fall or just after the New Year.

Coup d’État

The guys behind Borough/Parlour snapped up the hot real estate space that was formerly Cowboy Slim’s for a new 300-seat, two-story dining space set to include a mezzanine lounge, outdoor seating and a street-side window for pick up to satisfy those late night cravings. Jester Concepts’ new restaurant (located in the Walkway Apartment Complex) with feature contemporary Mediterranean food, with cocktails similar in style to Parlour (think sophisticated twists on the classics).

Heyday

Chef Jim Christiansen launched Union and then left to team up with Loren Zinter (former front-of-house manager at La Belle Vie) to create their dream restaurant. The concept for Heyday was three years in the making. The team is keeping all the food details hush hush, but the new Uptown restaurant (at 27th and Lyndale) is set to open in February.

The Rabbit Hole

Thomas Kim and Kal Melgaard moved here from LA and opened the Left-Handed Cook, but they claim their plan all along was to open a different restaurant: Rabbit Hole.  Their new space (also in the Midtown Global Market) will incorporate the same “Korean soul” idea from their first restaurant, but with a stronger leaning towards pub food. Think saam (lettuce wraps with rice and meat), duck fat mochi rice cakes, double-fried chicken and food straight off a Japanese charcoal grill.

Travail 2.0/ The Rookery

The second coming is upon us. At the beginning of April, Travail Kitchen & Amusements closed and reassembled as the completely new space, Pig Ate My Pizza. But Travail is set to open their 2.0 version late fall just a few doors down from the original. If that wasn’t enough, the team is also opening The Rookery, a sandwich shop focused on small plates and gastro sandwich creations found at Travail. We know where we’ll be for lunch.

Triton

As the name implies, Triton’s menu will be an ode to the sea. A star-studded trifecta of Twin Cities talent will lend their expertise to the space formerly known as Joe’s Garage: Jack Riebel (from Butcher and Boar), David Yusefzadeh (most recently of Smack Shack) and Geoffrey Trelstad (the guy behind the cocktails at King and I Thai).  The Loring Park restaurant’s menu will focus on food inspired by the flavors of Southern China, while their bar program will be vodka-based.

Urban Growler

The estrogen is kicking in at this entirely women-owned and operated brewery, taproom and restaurant, all rolled into one (the first of its kind). They’ll be serving up their award-winning, blue ribbon IPA, as well as “non-traditional” treats such as a Smoked Chipotle Porter and Rye IPA.
