Unleash Your Green Thumb by Entering to Win This Handblown Glass Planter

What happens when the spider plant in the corner of your living room is overgrown? Give it a haircut and grow new plants, said Israel Nordin, one half of the creative duo behind Detroit Design Center.

“We all have plants that get too long, and you used to have to cut it off and throw it away,” Nordin said. “But this way you can conserve, and kind of breed the plant.”

With Nordin’s hanging planters, those little trimmings can now grow into full-fledged plants.  Just snip off the excess greenery from your existing plant, put it in the planter with water and wait for the roots to sprout.

The Skinny:

“I’ve always loved plants in the house, and this is just a nice way to utilize what you have and celebrate it,” Nordin said.

Nordin’s design features curls of stainless steel the surround the handblown glass orb at the center of the planter. The metal lines are meant to complement the natural vines and leaves of the plant.

“I’ve just always been interested in vines and the lines of nature,” Nordin said. “I’m trying to make the metal look very organic and look very alive.”
